David Garrett (born September 4, 1980 in Aachen) is a violinist from Germany. Born David Christian Bongartz, he has been playing the violin since the age of four. He won his first prizes at the age of five, including at the Jugend musiziert competition. David Garrett began his musical career as a classical violinist and began releasing classical albums in 1995. However, David Garrett's breakthrough came with a mix of popular music and classical music. The album Free (2007) includes classical songs as well as a version of the Metallica ballad "Nothing Else Matters". From now on, David Garrett tours large halls as a violin rebel. In 2008, the violinist made it into the top 10 of the German album charts with the longplayer Encore, reaching number 7. In 2010, David Garrett achieved a number 1 hit in Germany with the album Rock Symphonies. From the mid-2010s, the violinist returned to his classical roots. Success stayed with him, as his longplayer Garrett vs. Paganini made it into the German top 10 at number 8 in 2013. David Garrett subsequently jumped back and forth between different musical styles with ease. With the albums Explosive (2015 - recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) and Rock Revolution (2017), the artist celebrates further chart successes. With the album Alive - My Soundtrack, David Garrett delivers a selection of his personal favorite hits in 2020, including "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees, "Thriller" by Michael Jackson and "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. For the album Iconic (2022), David Garrett was inspired by the most famous violinists of the 20th century. In 2024, the violinist returns with his album Millennium Symphony. The album climbed to number 2 in Germany and reached number 16 in Switzerland.
