One of the most popular Nigerian singers in modern-day music, Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 21, 1992, and relocated to Lagos as a child. He made his debut with 2012's Omo Baba Olowo, an album whose mix of Afrobeats, hip-hop, and pop proved to be wildly popular in Nigeria. Davido partnered with Sony for the release of 2016's Son of Mercy, which peaked at Number 4 on Billboard's US World Albums chart, and released a string of singles throughout 2017. One of those singles was "Fall," a gold-certified hit in both Canada and the United States. Davido was named Best African Act at the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards and became the first African act to sell out the O2 Arena in London. His second album, A Good Time, was released in 2019, featuring viral hits like "Blow My Mind" and "Risky." A Better Time followed in 2020, featuring Davido's collaboration with Nicki Minaj on the track "Holy Ground."
