Best known for the chart-topping Dutch singe "Watskeburt?!," De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig is a hip-hop group from Amsterdam, Netherlands. The project was launched in 2005 by Vieze Fur (also known as "Vieze Freddie"), Faberyayo (also known as "P. Dronq") and Willie Wartaal (also known as "WiWa"), with help from electropop producer Bas Bron. The debut single "Watskeburt?!," which featured music by Bron and lyrics from the group's three rappers, was released in May 2005, reached the Dutch Top 40 within a month, and soon climbed to Number 1. A second single, "Voorjekijkendoorlopen," reached Number 40 on the Dutch Top 100 later that year, and both songs appeared on De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig's debut album, Parels voor de zwijnen. One year later, the group was named "Best Newcomer" at the Edison Music Awards. After releasing standalone singles like "Ho Ho Ho" (with reached Number 25), "Poes in de Playboy," and "Shenkie," the group returned in 2008 with another full-length record, De Machine. "Hollereer," the record's biggest hit, reached Number 11 on the Dutch Top 100, while the minor hit "Deze Donkere Jongen komt zo Hard" climbed to Number 35 on the Flemish Ultratop chart. De Lachende Derde, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig's third album, was released in 2010 and included "Sterrenstof," the group's first Top 10 hit in five years. 2013's Ja Natuurlijk reached Number 2 on the Dutch charts, with 2015's Manon, 2018's Leuk, and 2018's Anders (Different) all cracking the Top 20. "Naar de maan," a duet with Dutch vocalist Maan, hit Number 9 on the Dutch Top 40 in 2022, and "Ze Is Pas Net Begonnen (Leerstage/Werkstage)" debuted at Number 29 on the Top 30 Tipparade chart one year later.
