Dean & Britta first formed in the mid-2000s, following the end of Luna (who later reformed in 2015), their highly regarded indie rock band. Their debut album, L'Avventura (2003), was inspired by Italian cinema and introduced their signature style—soothing, melancholic melodies paired with lush, atmospheric instrumentation. The duo’s collaborations extend beyond their own albums. In 2007, they scored the soundtrack for 13 Most Beautiful... Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests, a multimedia project that paired their live performance with Andy Warhol’s iconic short films. The project was widely praised for its haunting and elegant pairing of Warhol's avant-garde visuals with Dean & Britta’s ethereal, evocative music. This project not only solidified their place in the world of dream-pop but also highlighted their talent for creating immersive, emotionally charged soundtracks. Dean & Britta’s music is known for its introspective lyricism and its ability to transport listeners into otherworldly, reflective states. Their albums, including Back Numbers (2007) and Quarantine Tapes (2020), showcase a blend of sparse arrangements, gently sweeping melodies, and the interplay of Dean Wareham's distinctive baritone and Britta Phillips's ethereal soprano. The duo's ability to craft a cinematic mood has made them a favorite among fans of understated, melancholic pop and indie rock. In 2024, they turned their attention to festive music, uniting with the legendary UK artist Sonic Boom to release the album A Peace of Us.
