Active from 1989 to 1996, the American electro group Deee-Lite left its exuberant mark on the dance sphere. Formed in New York by Lady Miss Kier and DJ Dmitry, it became a trio with the arrival of Towa Tei from Japan. Influenced by the funk of Parliament, Deee-Lite pays great attention to the visual aspect of its music (musicians' outfits, stage, music videos). His song "Groove Is in the Heart " became a worldwide hit in 1990 and contributed to the success of the album World Clique in the U.S. and Great Britain. Focused on club music, Deee-Lite was unable to maintain this level of popularity and had to settle for a string of number-one dance hits in the U.S. (six including "Groove Is in the Heart"). Deee-Lite split up after their third album, Dewdrops in the Garden , released in 1994.
