Deicide is a death metal band from the USA that was founded in 1987. In the beginning, the band from Florida called themselves Amon. The first demo recordings, Feasting the Beast (1987) and Sacrificial (1989), were released under this name. Deicide's songs deal exclusively with anti-Christian or Satanic themes. As a result, the band was often banned from performing in the early days. The first regular studio album in 1990 bears the band's name. Legion followed two years later. In 1995, the band's third studio album Once Upon the Cross made its first chart entry in the UK at number 66. In the mid-1990s, the band was at the peak of its career. Until the album Once Upon the Cross (2004), the band's development was harmonious. This was followed by a number of line-up changes within the group. With new members, the album The Stench of Redemption reached number 84 in Germany in 2006. But then some band members change again. It was not until 2018 that Deicide returned to the charts with the album Overtures of Blasphemy, which reached number 22 in Germany. Another six years later, a new studio album was released with Banished by Sin. At number 16, the album lands in the top 20 in Germany for the first time.
