Russian pianist born in 1975 in the Siberian town of Irtskousk, Denis Matsuev (or Denis Matsuyev) is the son of a composer and a music teacher. Winner of several competitions, he studied at the Moscow Conservatory and distinguished himself in a competition in South Africa, before winning the prestigious Tchaikosvki International Competition in 1998, which launched his solo career. In a career punctuated by concerts in the greatest concert halls and a series of recordings, for RCA Red Seal and then Mariinsky with Valery Gergiev, he takes on the artistic direction of the Stars on Baïkal festival in his hometown and the Crescendo festival in Russia, as well as the annual rendez-vous in Annecy. Sensitive to musical education, which he promotes through a foundation, Denis Matsuev was appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 2014. The world-renowned pianist mainly performs the Romantic repertoire, in particular works by Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky.
