Destroy Boys

The feminist punk-rock band Destroy Boys formed in 2015 in Sacramento, California. Guitarist Violet Mayugba — the daughter of Phallucy's Sonny Mayugba and The Skirts' Lynn Mayugba — co-founded the band with vocalist Alexia Roditis as an acoustic project. They debuted their acoustic sound with an EP, Mom Jeans, in late 2015, followed by Grimester — the group's first recording to feature a third member, Ethan Knight — in 2016. Later that year, Destroy Boys made its full-length debut by digitally releasing Sorry, Mom, a nine-track album that earned the band three nominations at the 25th Sacramento Area Music Awards. Nominated for awards in the "New Artist," "Punk/Post-Punk," and "Teen" categories, Destroy Boys reshuffled their lineup after Sorry, Mom's release, eventually winding up with a new drummer, Narsai Malik, and a new bassist, Blake Eitel, in 2018. That same year, the band released a second album, Make Room, along with singles like "Crybaby," "Vixen," "American River," and "Soundproof." After releasing the singles "Fences" and "Honey I'm Home" in 2020, Destroy Boys signed with Hopeless Records and made their label debut with 2021's "Muzzle." The song was the lead single on Open Mouth, Open Heart, the group's third album, which was released in October 2021. Two years later, Destroy Boys earned they first hit on the Billboard charts with "Shadow (I'm Breaking Down)," which debuted at number 40 on the Top 40 Radio Alternative Songs chart in December 2023.
