Diana Jones, born in 1965 is an American singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee, is celebrated for her deeply evocative contributions to Americana and folk music. Her breakthrough came in 2006 with My Remembrance of You, an album inspired by the loss of her grandfather, Robert Lee Maranville, and dedicated to him and music archivist Alan Lomax. This release, which earned critical acclaim and topped numerous "best of" lists, showcases Jones's timeless songwriting, blending traditional Appalachian sounds with contemporary folk. The track "Pony," a poignant narrative about cultural assimilation, was particularly praised, earning nominations and significant airplay on folk radio. Adopted and raised in New York City, Jones discovered her connection to country music during high school, influenced by artists like Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris. A reunion with her birth family in Tennessee deepened her appreciation for Appalachian music, particularly through her grandfather’s legacy. Her earlier career saw her performing in Austin, Texas, and releasing albums like Imagine Me (1997) and The One That Got Away (1999). Jones's subsequent works include collaborations with Jonathan Byrd on Radio Soul (2007) and solo albums like Better Times Will Come (2009), High Atmosphere (2011), Museum of Appalachia Recordings (2013) and Song to a Refugee (2020).
