The Argentinian bandoneón player Dino Saluzzi was born Timoteo Saluzzi in Campo Santo, Salta Province in 1935. The bandoneón is the distinctive concertina instrument used extensively in tango ensembles and is popular throughout Argentina and Uruguay. Saluzzi began playing in dance bands and orchestras from a young age and after basing himself in Buenos Aires, became renowned as a leading member of the Radio El Mundo orchestra. His recording career began in 1972 with the release of his debut album 'De Vuelta a Salta' and he toured extensively during this period particularly in South America and Japan developing a reputation for being one of Argentina's foremost 'bandoneónistas'. His popularity continued to grow steadily and during the 1980s Saluzzi became an internationally recognised player performing with numerous leading musicians from Europe and America including artists such as Charlie Haden, Al Di Meola, Palle Danielsson and Charlie Mariano. With more than 20 albums to his credit Saluzzi is one of the most respected players within traditional Argentinian music and was recognised in 2015 with a prestigious Konex Award citing him as the most influential Argentinian musician of the previous decade.
