Dionne Farris, born in New Jersey in 1969, owes her first name to Dionne Warwick. A singer from an early age, she took part in productions of musicals, then made a name for herself on several tracks with rap group Arrested Development, including the single "Tennessee " (1992). Two years later, she released her first solo album, Wild Seed - Wild Flower, which brought her the biggest hit of her career, "I Know", ranked #4 in the USA. After a few tracks slipped into film soundtracks, a conflict with her label delayed the release of her second album, For Truth If Not Love, distributed in 2007 on iTunes. Dionne Farris continued to record thereafter, without regaining the notoriety of her beginnings. She released the album Signs of Life (2011) on her label Free & Clear Records, and took a detour into intimate jazz with guitarist Charlie Hunter on Dionne Dionne (2014).
