Cuban-American DJ Lazaro Mendez is better known by his stage name DJ Laz. He was already performing as a DJ in clubs in Florida at the age of 15 and became a successful DJ for the American radio channel Power 96 in 1990 with his 'DJ Laz Morning Show'. He hosted the show for 22 years. In 1991, DJ Laz released his debut self-titled album which included the popular single 'Mami El Negro'. Both the album and single reached the top 100 in the R&B/Hip-Hop Charts. His second album 'Journey Into Bass' (1993) and the single of the same name in 1994 were also popular, the single remaining one of his best-selling to date. DJ Laz's next albums, 'King of Bass' (1996), 'Cruzin'' (1998) and 'Pimpin'' (2000), featured artists such as Trick Dog, Celo and Daddy C, but it was his album 'Category 6' in 2008 which was his next to chart in the top 100. From this album, the single 'Move Shake Drop' (2008) featuring Casely and Flo Rida was also a hit in the Hot 100, Hot Latin Songs and the Rhythmic Charts in the USA. In addition to his album and single releases, DJ Laz has produced and remixed tracks for several prominent artists including Luther Campbell, Will Smith and Gloria Estefan. He also promotes shows and performs in several clubs in Fort Lauderdale.
