Domi and JD Beck is a jazz duo formed in 2018 by French keyboardist Dom – born Domitille Degalle in Metz, France on March 2, 2000 – and American drummer JD Beck, who was born in Dallas, Texas on March 3, 2003. Dom began playing keyboards and drums at the age of three and, two years later, she studied jazz and classical piano at the Conservatoire de Nancy. She later stuied at the Conservatoire de Paris before moving to the US and attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. She began posting her original music on several social media platforms, which led to her recording with artists such as Anderson .Paak, Thundercat, and others. JD Beck began playing piano when he was five, but switched to the drums four years later. At the age of 10, he began performing live for the first time and was later mentored by Cleon Edwards, Jon Bapp, and Robert ‘Sput’ Searight. In 2018, Dom and JD Beck were attending the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show and met for the first time. They remained in contact and after they reconnected at a birthday party for Erykah Badu, they began working on music together. The duo wrote the song “Skate,” which was recorded by Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak) and released in 2021. Signing to Anderson .Paak’s Apeshit label – distributed by Blue Note Records - Dom and JD Beck released their first single, “Smile,” in April 2022. In July of the same year, they issued their second single, “Take a Chance,” and their debut album Not Tight. The album featured guest appearances from Thundercat, Anderson .Paak, Mac DeMarco, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Herbie Hancock.
