Doug Stone

Known as Doug Stone, American country singer Douglas Jackson Brooks was born in Marietta, Georgia, on June 19, 1956. The son of a country singer, he began performing as a teenager and recording in his studio, before being noticed at the age of thirty by the Epic label, which offered him an artist's contract. Success followed on from the inaugural album in 1990, with the hit "I'd Be Better Off (In a Pine Box)", the first of a long series of country chart hits, including No. 1s "In a Different Light" and "A Jukebox with a Country Song" (1991), "Too Busy Being in Love" (1992) and "Why I Didn't Think of That" (1993). Despite health obstacles such as a major operation in 1992 and a heart attack in 1995, followed by a plane crash in 1997, Doug Stone continued his career, and after the gold-certified albums I Thought It Was You (1991) and From the Heart (1992), followed by More Love (1993), Faith in Me, Faith in You (1995) and Make Up in Love (1999). Back in 2002 with The Long Way, he signed to an independent label, Lofton Creek Records, for the follow-ups In a Different Light (2005) and My Turn (2007). After appearing in a number of film roles, he turned his attention to his family life.
