J-Pop group Dreams Come True was formed in Japan in 1988. The R&B and new wave-influenced group was originally a trio featuring vocalist Miwa Yoshida, bassist Masato Nakamura, and keyboardist Takahiro Nishikawa. Signing to the Epic/Sony Records label, Dreams Come True’s 1989 self-titled album was an enormous success, reaching the Top 30 in Japan and selling over 500,000 copies. Their second album, Love Goes On (1989), sold over a million copies and hit Number 8 on the charts. Continuing their hit streak, their next nine albums – including Wonder 3 (1990), Million Kisses (1991), Magic (1993), Delicious (1995), The Monster (1999), and Monkey Girl Odyssey (2001) – all reached Number 1 on the Japanese Albums chart. While most of their albums were sung in their native language, between 1998 and 2004, Dreams Come True recorded three albums in English in hopes of appealing to an international market. Although they continued to be enormously successful in their home country, keyboardist Takahiro Nishikawa left the group in order to pursue a solo career. The remaining duo chose to continue with Dreams Come True and released a series of hit albums, most of which reached the top of the album charts. In all, the band has released 20 studio releases and a multitude of remix albums, limited edition box albums, and a series of compilations including Greatest Hits: The Soul (2000), Greatest Hits: The Soul II (2009), Dreams Come True: The Best! Watashi no Dorikamu (2015) and Dreams Come True: The Ura Best! Watashi Dake no Dorikamu (2016). Outside of his recordings with Dreams Come True, bassist Masato Nakamura has also composed music for Sega Mega games including Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992).
