Edison Chen Koon-hei, born Chen Hing-wah on October 7, 1980, in Vancouver, Canada, is a Hong Kong actor, singer, rapper, and fashion designer. Hailing from a family of Chinese and Portuguese descent, he grew up in a family with strong ties to the entertainment industry, his father being the renowned businessman Edward Chen, a mogul in the Hong Kong entertainment scene. Edison Chen's journey into the limelight began unexpectedly when a talent scout spotted him in Hong Kong at the age of 19. This encounter led to his first commercial and swiftly transitioned into a promising acting career with his debut in the Japanese film Dead or Alive 2: Birds, followed by significant roles in Hong Kong cinema including Infernal Affairs, Initial D, and Dog Bite Dog. Despite facing setbacks, such as a reduced role in The Dark Knight due to a scandal, Edison made a notable comeback in films like Almost Perfect and was later involved in Lou Ye's project in Guangzhou in 2016. In 2000, Edison's musical career took off with Emperor Entertainment Group, making his debut with a self-titled EP later that year. Though he recorded several Cantopop and Mandopop LPs for the label, it wasn't until 2004 that he finally achieved widespread acclaim with the hip-hop release Please Steal This Album. Over the following years, Edison Chen released Cantonese hip-hop albums such as CONFUSION (2010) and the Chef and MC Yan collaborative album 三角度 (3 Corners) (2012), which featured the hit single "Everywhere We Go." A second joint album titled 3 Corners II 三角度(二) arrived in 2015 while This Little Monkey: Part 1 一只猴子 was released in 2018 via Clot Media Division, a sister company to his streetwear and fashion label.
