Elli Medeiros

A Uruguayan singer and actress living in France, Elli Medeiros is best known for her hit "Toi mon toit " and her participation in the punk band Stinky Toys. Born in Montevideo on January 18, 1956, she attended the theater performances of her actress mother, and played children's roles in plays, operas and on television. When her parents separated, she followed her mother to Argentina, then to Paris at the age of fourteen, where she joined her partner Jacno (born Denis Quilliard) in the punk band Stinky Toys, which was featured on the cover of the British magazine Melody Maker. The duo Elli & Jacno, which she then formed with her fiancé, enjoyed great success with two original albums, the hit "Main dans la main" and the music for Éric Rohmer's film Les Nuits de la pleine lune (1984), in which she appeared. Elli Medeiros then went solo with the pop melody "Toi mon toit", which reached #22 in the Top 50, along with "A Bailar Calypso" (#24). His first personal album, Bom Bom... (1986) was conceived with Ramuntcho Matta, among other comic strip and fashion creations, and a new film appearance in Olivier Assayas' Désordre (1986). The actress starred in Olivier Assayas' Paris s'éveille (1991) and Fin août, début septembre (1998), Stéphane Giusti's Pourquoi pas moi? (1998), Tonie Marshall's Vénus beauté (Institut ) (1999) and Fabien Oteniente's Jet Set (2000). In 2006, Elli Medeiros released her third album EM, featuring the hit song "Soulève-moi", produced with Étienne Daho, prior to the big-screen release of Gaël Morel's film Après lui, starring Catherine Deneuve. Elli Medeiros gives a number of concerts in her homeland, and films in Argentina in Pablo Trapero's Leonera, presented at the Cannes Film Festival. Her eldest daughter, Calypso Valois, is also an actress and singer.
