Singer and songwriter Emily King was born in New York City July 10, 1985 to parents who performed together as a musical duo. Learning at their feet, she began pursuing a music career while still a teenager. Her debut album, 2007’s East Side Story, established her as a fresh voice in R&B and garnered a Grammy nomination for best Contemporary R&B Album. It also scored her a pair of top 40 Adult R&B hits with “Walk in My Shoes” and “U & I”. She soon broke from her record deal with J Records and released the EP Seven a few years later in 2011. Suring that time she opened for numerous artists including Maroon 5. Her style evolved during this period and by the time of 2015’s The Switch, with the help of producer Jeremy Most, she had concentrated on a more soulful sound. For 2019’s Scenary she reunited with Most and scored the biggest charting album of her career to that point and picking up her second Grammy nomination, this time for Best R&B Song for ”Look at Me Now”.
