Born in Kampar, Perak, Malaysia on February 9, 1963, Eric Moo Chii Yuan is known professionally as Eric Moo: an award-winning singer-songwriter and producer who has worked primarily within the Mandopop arena. Eric Moo moved to Malaysia aged 8 and joined his first band, Subway Band, in Singapore in 1983 while at high school. It wasn't long before he had recorded his first album, which he released the following year and which topped Singapore's Mandopop charts. He was at the forefront of the Singapore-born Mandarin vocal genre xinyao during the 1980s and 1990s, with one of his most popular songs, "Kopi O" (咖啡乌), performed for the hit SBC drama series The Coffee Shop in 1985. 1989 marked the release of his first Cantonese crossover album but he continued to lend his focus to Mandopop – releasing albums throughout the 00s, including one in November 2009 – before relocating to Taiwan. In 2014, he performed at the xinyao-themed series of concerts and in 2018 released a religious album, Worship, with a new single, "活该," arriving in 2020.
