Esa-Pekka Salonen

One of the greatest conductors of his generation, Esa-Pekka Salonen (b. 1958, Finland) graduated from the Sieblius Academy in 1973 and embarked on a dual career as composer and conductor of orchestral ensembles such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic (1984) and the Philharmonia London (1985-1994). Specializing in works by modern and contemporary composers such as Olivier Messiaen(Turangalila Symphony), Carl Nielsen, Lustowslawski, Sibelius, Stravinsky, Bartok and Hindemith, he also conducts compositions by Bach, Haydn and Beethoven. In 1992, he took the helm of the L.A. Philharmonic. As a composer, Esa-Pekka Salonen wrote the scores for Giro (1981), Floof (1982), L.A. Variations (1996), Gambit (1997), Five Images (1999), Wing on Wing (2004) and a Piano Concerto (2007). 2012 sees the release of his new work Out of Nowhere.
