A funk band with a slight disco flavour from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), Fat Larry's Band is at least as well known in Europe as it is in the USA. Their only chart success came with "Zoom" in England in 1982. The title track that crossed eras and became a funk classic, "Act Like You Know" also in 1982, had to make do with the specialized R&B and dance charts. Without being exceptional, Fat Larry's Band made some honest records with Off the Wall (1978) on Stax, Stand Up (1980), and Breakin' Out and its hits in 1982. Fat Larry's Band didn't go any further than December 5, 1987, with the death of founder, drummer and singer Larry James.
