Father John Misty

Joshua Michael Tillman, also known as J. Tillman or Father John Misty, is an American singer, guitarist, composer and drummer, born on May 3, 1981 in Rockville, Maryland (USA). Although he began his solo career in 2004, he has also taken part in numerous musical projects in the American indie rock sphere, including those of Fleet Foxes, Jonathan Wilson and Siberian. He has also released numerous albums under the name J. Tillman, including 2009's Vacilando Territory Blues, which reached number 191 in the UK charts. In 2012, he changed his name to Father John Misty. He inaugurated his new name on Fear Fun the same year. This debut at No. 123 in the U.S. was followed by I Love You, Honeybear (2015), a real turning point, reaching No. 17 on the Billboard charts and No. 14 in the UK. In 2017, Pure Comedy did even better, reaching number ten in the US and number eight in the UK. Barely a year later, Father John Misty delivers God's Favorite Customer (#18 in the U.S., #12 in the U.K.). Her fifth album, Chloƫ and the Next 20th Century, was released in 2022. Produced by Jonathan Wilson, it reached No. 28 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 in the UK. A major player on the American independent scene, in 2022 Tillman releases a series of live albums recorded in previous years and the recent EP, Live at Electric Lady. After an appearance on Lana Del Rey's 2023 album, the compilation Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams and My Dreams Said to Crawl (2024) was released, followed by a new album, Mahashmashana, produced in Los Angeles with Jonathan Wilson and Drew Erickson. Once again, the album received rave reviews, with the singles "Screamland" and "She Cleans Up" as standard-bearers.
