Formed in San Diego, California in 1985, Fattburger was a jazz-funk and fusion band formed by Hollis Gentry (saxophone), Carl Evans Jr. (keyboards), Mark Hunter (bass), Steve Laury (guitar) and Kevin Koch (drums). Percussionist Tommy Aros was recruited as an auxiliary band member. Fattburger released their debut album, One of a Kind, in 1986 and received substantial airplay on jazz-oriented radio stations. Gentry left Fattburger before the band recorded their second album, Good News, in 1987. This album proved to be their commercial breakthrough, earning the band a sizable following in the process. The band continued to release albums – Living in Paradise (1988), Time Will Tell (1989), and Come and Get It (1990) – before Laury left the band. By this time, Gentry had returned to the Fattburger fold on a part-time basis. The band continued to tour and release albums such as On a Roll (1993), Living Large (1995), Fattburger.com (2000), T.G.I. Fattburger (2001), Sizzlin’ (2003), and Work to Do! (2004). The band released two well-received compilations: The Best of Fattburger (1992) and Fattburger’s Greatest Hits (2007). Hollis Gentry died on September 5, 2006. Carl Evans Jr. passed away on April 10, 2008.
