Ferhat Göçer – born in Birecik, Turkey on May 11, 1970 – is perhaps the only successful pop and opera singer in the world who maintained a dual career as both a Turkish pop star and physician / general surgeon. Growing up in Ismit, Turkey, he attended The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1985 before enrolling in the Istanbul University State Conservatory Singing Department in 1988. After working for the State Opera and Ballet, he completed his mandatory service, where he had taken a position as a doctor. Settling in Istanbul, he began a career as a General Surgeon while also setting goals for a dual career as a singer. Blending Turkish folk, pop and opera, he began to build a name for himself in the music industry and performed with the Metropol Symphony Orchestra. Ferhat Göçer released his self-titled debut album in 2005, selling close to 200,000 in Turkey. His next album, Yolun Açık Olsun (2007), was even more successful and doubled the sales of his debut. Çok Sevdim İkimizi (2008) was another massive success for the Turkish singer, although sales started to slow down with the release of albums such as Biz Aşkımıza Bakalım (2010), Seni Sevmeye Aşığım (2011), and Kalbe Kiralık Aşklar (2013). Ferhat Göçer scored a series of number 1 hits over the course of his career including “Cennet” (2007), “Bizim Şarkımız” (2008), “Biri Bana Gelsin” (2008), “Üzüm” (2010), “Git” (2013), and “Günah” (featuring Volga Tamöz). He also had numerous Top 10 hits including “Gül Ki” (2008), “Sen Söyle Hayat” (2008), “Unutmuş Çoktan” (2011), and “Yıllarım Gitti” (2015). Ferhat Göçer retired from his physician position in 2017 but has continued his music career.
