Born Tahliah Debrett Barnett on January 17, 1988 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK, the future-facing falsetto force of British pop known as FKA Twigs started her career as a backup dancer before morphing into a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, producer and cover star famed for her unique style and high-concept music videos. FKA Twigs grew up in the spa town of Cheltenham where she began taking ballet and opera lessons and making music at the local youth club. With designs on becoming a dancer, she moved to south London aged 17 where she enrolled at the UK's famed BRIT School, although left to study fine arts at Croydon College. After performing as a backup dancer in music videos by Jessie J, Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran among others, she started working on her own music and released her self-produced debut, the avant-pop statement of EP1, on Bandcamp in December 2012. Her second release, EP2, came out in September 2013 via Young Turks, which she produced with Arca. Her debut studio album, LP1, was released in 2014 also via Young Turks (who later re-released it under the Young Turks label in Japan in October 2016) which went to Number 16 in the UK and was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. A third EP, M3LL155X, which was produced by Boots, was released in August 2015. An eternal experimentalist, FKA Twigs mixed everything from chamber pop to rap – with a guest appearance from rapper Future – into her second studio album Magdalene (2019), which she produced herself alongside an array of other producers including Skrillex and Daniel Lopatin. In 2020, FKA Twigs was featured on Ty Dolla $ign's new single, "Ego Death," and in 2021 she collaborated with London rapper Headie One and producer Fred Again.. on a new single, “Don’t Judge Me." In 2022, the genre-melding artist released her first mixtape, Caprisongs, which featured guest spots from a variety of artists including Pa Salieu, the Weeknd, Shygirl, Jorja Smith, and Unknown T, with Arca among the mixtape's producers. Caprisongs reached Number 42 in the UK and Number 91 on the US Billboard 200.
