The US rap artist Freeway was born Leslie Pridgen in Philadelphia in 1978. He built his artistic reputation amongst the Philadelphia hip-hop community by taking part in well publicised freestyle battles alongside artists such as Beanie Sigel. It was Sigel who introduced Pridgen to Roc-A-Fella records, the label owned by hip-hop mogul Shawn Carter (better known as Jay-Z). Roc-A-Fella signed Pridgen and he released his debut album 'Philadelphia Freeway' in 2003. The lead single from the album was titled 'What We Do' and featured both Sigel and Jay-Z and was to provide the rapper with the most significant commercial success of his career as well as helping album sales which eventually topped half a million units. Pridgen now has six studio albums to his credit, the most recent of which has been 'Think Free' which the artist released in 2018.
