Formed in Weimar, Germany, in 1991, Friend 'N Fellow is a diverse, multi-genre duo featuring vocalist Constanze Friend and virtuosic guitar player Thomas Fellow. Both members pursued their own careers before working together. A trained singer, Friend opened for acts like Alvin Lee and James Brown as the lead vocalist of the R&B act Mr Adapoe. Meanwhile, Fellow established himself as one of Germany's foremost guitarists, eventually becoming a professor at the Dresden University of Music. Inspired by blues, jazz, soul, and pop, the two musicians began collaborating in 1991 and released Friend 'N Fellow's independent debut, Fairy Godmother, in 1995. The duo then began working with Ruf Records, kicking off the partnership with 1997's Home and continuing to work with the label throughout the following two decades. After releasing 1998's Purple Rose and 2001's Taxi, Friend 'N Fellow showcased its strength as a must-see live act with 2003's Live, which captured a performance in the band's hometown of Weimar. Two years later, the musicians reinterpreted the sounds of their favorite artists with a collection of cover songs — the aptly-named Covered — and began working on a new album of original material, Crystal, which arrived in 2006. Studio albums like 2009's Lady, 2010's Discovered, and 2015's About April followed, as did the 2016 concert album Silver Live. Three years later, Friend 'N Fellow its twelfth album, Characters, on Thomas Fellow's own record label, Doctor Heart Music.
