Formed in 1996 by Christian de Luca and Michael Fakesch, the German duo Funkstörung are the originators of intelligent dance music. Initially known as remixers, the protagonists released Appetite for Disctruction in 2000. Their minimalist techno, immediately hailed for its elegance, reappeared in 2004 with Disconnected, which saw Funkstörung expand its sound universe and make use of female vocals. In 2005, The Return to the Acid Planet was a tribute to their early work. It was a decade before the duo was reborn on the Monkeytown label with their fourth album, Funkstörung, featuring Jay-Jay Johanson and Jamie Lidell.
