Gage

Musician and actor Pierre Gage, better known mononymously as Gage, was born on January 2nd, 1977 in Montréal, Canada to parents of Haitian and Jamaican descent. While an early career highlight came in the form of a successful audition for a part in the rock opera Starmania, the French-language singer-songwriter wouldn’t find his big break until the late 1990s, when he co-founded the Quebec-based R&B vocal trio O.N.E. Comprised of Gage and fellow singers Corneille and Gardy Fury, the group made a chart-topping impact on the Canadian airwaves at the turn of the millennium with their single “Zoukin”, leading to support slots for the likes of Kelis and Isabelle Boulay. O.N.E was short-lived, however, and dispersed in 2001, with all three artists embarking on their own solo careers. By 2005, Gage had inked his own deal with French label Wagram Music, with whom he released his debut album, Soul Rebel. Largely co-written and produced by frequent collaborator Corneille, the LP drew on a myriad of influences including soul and reggae. It sold over 250,000 copies and spawned three singles, two of which – “Trop Fresh” and “Pense À Moi” – which both entered the French Top 50. The following year, Gage served as a judge on the French Eurovision selection panel. After releasing two more lesser-known albums, 2008’s Motown-inspired effort Changer Le Monde and 2014’s rock-tinged Soul R.évolution, Gage entered the French edition of The Voice in 2019, making it to the quarter finals as a mentee of Mika. Capitalising on this renewed public interest, Wagram released a compilation of his past works later the same year entitled L’homme d’une seule femme.
