Kai Hansen (guitar, vocals) tired of Helloween in 1988. He then started a solo project with Ralph Scheepers (vocals) in Hamburg (Lower Saxony). Gamma Ray was born, and released Heading for Tomorrow in 1990. Sigh No More (1991) and Insanity & Genius (1993) followed, before Ralph Scheepers founded Primal Fear in 1994. Kai Hansen then became Gamma Ray's lead singer, and the band took the opportunity to release Land of the Free (1995). Now firmly established in the polished metal galaxy, Gamma Ray released Somewhere Out In Space (1997), Power Plant (1999), No World Order (2001), Majestic (2005), and Lord of the Free II (2007). Gamma Ray's 2010 release, To the Metal, reached No. 24 in the German album charts immediately after its release. In 2014, the band appears bleeding as never before with Empire of the Dead.
