Genie High is an indie pop band featuring various musicians, TV hosts, and pop-culture personalities from Japan's entertainment industry. The group formed in 2018 in Tokyo, Japan, where classical composer Takashi Niigaki, Tricot frontman Ikkyu Nakajima, and comedian Kukki began making frequent appearances on the talk-show Bazooka. The show was hosted by Kazutoyo Koyabu, and all four men decided to form Genie High as an experimental project aimed at receiving attention from the Japanese press. Enon Kawatani, best known as the frontman of Gesu no Kiwami Otome, completed the lineup. "I'm in love with one eye abnormally," the band's debut single, was released in March 2018, with the self-titled mini-album Genie High following in October 2018. Genie High reached number 12 on the Oricon charts and was followed by the band's full-length debut album, Genie High Story, which hit number 24 in 2019. A second album, Genie Star, followed in 2021 and became the band's most successful release, cracking the Top 10 at number 9. That same year, singles like "Kyashana Lip," "夏嵐," and "natsuarashi" all became hits on various Japanese charts, including Top 200 Shazam and Top 50 Kkbox. This momentum carried the band into 2023, when Genie High released Genie Classic and returned to the singles charts with "モンスター ," a duet featuring yama.
