Joel Tan (born 23 March 1994), otherwise known as Gentle Bones, is a Singaporean singer-songwriter who first found fame sharing cover songs on YouTube in the early 2010s. After building a loyal fanbase online over the ensuing years, the release of his self-titled debut EP in 2014 put him firmly on the Southeast Asian pop map. The following year, he became the first Singaporean artist to sign with Universal Music Singapore and dropped a second EP, the future bass-meets-R&B of Geniuses & Thieves, in 2016. A third EP, Michelle, arrived in 2018 followed by his first Mandarin single "你还不知道?("Don't You Know Yet?") – a collaboration with singer-songwriter Tay Kewei – in 2020. He also joined forces with Benjamin Kheng that same year for the Better With You EP while unleashing his debut full-length solo album, Gentle Bones, in 2021, corralling an impressive line-up of guests for the project that included a co-write credit from Jasmine Sokko on the dance-inflected single "Help!". Having worked as an independent artist since 2020, he dropped a new three-track EP, The Art of Thanking Yourself, in 2022.
