Reggae artist known by the name of Gentleman is actually German musician Tilmann Otto. Otto was born in Osnabrück in 1975 and is an influential figure in the thriving German reggae scene comprised of artists such as Seeed, Patrice, Sebastian Sturm and many others. His credentials as a reggae performer are highlighted by the fact he performed on 'True Love', the 2004 Grammy Award-winning album by Toots and the Maytals which featured high profile guest artists such as Willy Nelson, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. Otto began travelling to Jamaica as a teenager where he began to pick up his musical influences. He started out his musical career performing with German hip-hop band Freundeskreis before going on to become a successful DJ and developing his own reggae style. His fourth album 'Confidence' released in 2004 gave the artist his first number one in Germany, an achievement he repeated with his sixth album 'Diversity'. With 15 EPs, numerous singles and 12 studio albums to his credit, Gentleman is one of the most prolific performers among the current cadre of German reggae artists.
