Actress and singer Germaine Montero (1909-2000) was still a student when she began her career in Spain under the aegis of the author Federico Garcia Lorca, whom she brought to the attention of the French public on stage (notably in Noces de sang) and on record(Paseando por Espana, 1952). Actress in Monsieur Ripois (1954), Mélodie en sous-sol (1963) and other film classics, sometimes playing herself, she also distinguished herself by interpreting songs by authors such as Pierre Mac Orlan, Jacques Prévert and Léo Ferré, and won the Grand Prix du disque de l'Académie Charles-Cros three times. Her realistic repertoire includes the hits "La Fille de Londres", "Je veux vous raconter", "La Chanson de Margaret " and the album Mère Courage (1967), after Bertolt Brecht.
