Mexican R&B artist Mariana de Miguel is better known by her stage name Girl Ultra. She formed a band called AFFER aged 17 with fellow students at her college and became the lead singer, performing mainly disco-style songs. The band, which included producer Andrés Jaime, also known as Wet Baez, and brothers Miguel and Hugo Galicia, took time out from their studies to perform. Influenced by Mexican actress Sylvia Pinal, Miguel made her film debut in 2012 at the age of 18. Her acting influenced her stage persona later, when the band split and the members went on to pursue solo careers. Miguel signed for Finesse Records in 2016. She continued to stay in touch with members of AFFER, especially Baez, who produced her debut single 'Cruel' in 2017. The song was included on her first EP 'Boys' in 2017, as was single 'Mala', a hip-hop based track. The EP also contained a Spanish cover of Daniel Caeser's 'Get You'. In 2018, Miguel released her second EP, 'Adiós' and performed in a tour of the USA with The Marias and Triathalon. Her first studio album, 'Nuevos Aires' was released in 2019, and in the same year she featured on fellow Mexican actress and singer Ximena Sariñana's track 'No Sé'.
