Born on 21 April 1970 in Ballymun, Ireland, Glen Hansard rose to fame as the frontman of The Frames, who formed in 1990, and as one half of the folk-rock duo The Swell Season, who he founded in 2005 alongside Markéta Irglová. In 2007, he starred in the Irish music drama Once and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly," written with co-star and co-writer Markéta Irglová. He set off on a solo path in 2012 and released his debut album of folk-pop, Rhythm and Repose. That same year, he recorded "Take the Heartland" for the soundtrack to The Hunger Games. His work on Once the musical in 2013 also earned him the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and his second studio LP Didn't He Ramble emerged two years later. The record was nominated for Best Folk Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. He has since released three more studio albums: 2018's Between Two Shores, which charted all over the world, 2019's This Wild Willing, and 2023's All That Was East Is West of Me Now.
