Glen Wilson

Born in Greenville, Indiana on March 29, 1952, Glen Wilson is a Netherlands-based harpsichordist, clavichordist, and organist who specializes in Renaissance and Baroque era music. While he performs well-known works like Bach’s Goldberg Variations, he also seeks out works by overlooked and underappreciated composers of early music. After studying at the Julliard School under Albert Fuller, he moved to the Netherlands and studied under Gustav Leonhardt. He entered the Bruges International Competition in 1980 and won all three categories. He became a member of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra but left in 1982 in order to pursue a career as a soloist and a teacher at Utrecht Conservatory. Six years later, he moved to Bavaria, Germany in order to take a teaching position at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg. Glen Wilson was the harpsichordist for the Netherlands Opera for 20 years but also worked with the Leonhardt Consort, Concentus Musicus Wein, and La Petite Bande. He also played the basso continuo parts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He turned to conducting in 1990 and debuted with the Netherlands Opera’s production of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria. Recording for the Naxos label, his repertoire focuses on the Renaissance and Baroque eras and includes albums such as Buxtehude: La Capricciosa / Suite in G Minor (2005), Le Roux: Complete Works for One and Two Harpsichords (2007), Sweelinck: Music for Harpsicord - Fantasia Cromatica - Echo Fantasia (2009), Bach: Goldberg Variations (2010), Cabezon: Complete Tientos & Variations (2012), Richardson: Complete Works for Harpsichord (2014), Cavazzoni: Complete Works – Italian Ricercars (2017), and Harpsichord Works Published by Pierre Attaingnant (2019).
