After starting out on his musical career with the gospel group The Modulations, the Florida-born singer Glenn Jones decided to move into the rapidly growing R&B market. His initial break came in 1980 when Norman Connors, the well known American jazz drummer and composer, asked Jones to perform the vocals on his song 'Melancholy Fire'. The track featured on Connors' album and was released as a single which made it to number 20 in the Billboard Charts. For the next three years Jones toured with Connors until eventually signing a solo deal with RCA in 1983. Jones had a number of hits whilst working with RCA and songs such as 'I Am Somebody', 'Bring Back Your Love' and 'Show Me' (which reached number three) firmly established Jones as a popular act in the American R&B scene. By the 1990s Jones had moved to Atlantic Records and in 1992 he released the single 'Here I Go Again' which brought him his first number one record. A year later the British girl band Eternal released Jones's track 'Stay' which made the top five in the UK and the top 20 in the US. Jones's last studio album was released in 2002, by which time the singer's appeal had waned and sales were disappointing. He disappeared from the music scene and although there were rumours in 2012 the singer was working on a new album nothing ever materialised.
