Formed in 1967 by ex-Soft Machine Daevid Allen, the Franco-English band Gong brought together a community of musicians who left their mark on the 1970s with their soaring, delirious music and happenings-style concerts. The albums Camembert Electrique (1971) and Flying Teapot (1973) are classics. In 1975, Pierre Moerlen took the band in hand and turned it towards jazz rock(Shamal). After the departure of guitarist Steve Hillage, several entities claimed the group's legacy, continuing to record under the names Pierre Moerlen's Gong, New York Gong, Planet Gong and Acid Mothers Gong. The group was reborn in 2009 with the album Gong 2032. A new line-up, with Daevid Allen as the only historic member, released I See You in 2014. The band's future is compromised when founding member, the eminent Daevid Allen, succumbs to cancer on March 13, 2015.
