Gopi Sundar

Gopisundar C. S. (May 30, 1977), or simply Gopi Sundar, is an award-winning Indian actor, songwriter, and playback singer, mostly known for his extensive contributions to film soundtracks. Apart from his career as a reputed film score composer, Gopi Sundar also owns his own record label, Gopi Sundar Music Company, and the recording studio Sunsa Digital Workstation. Born in Kochi in Southern India, he showed an interest in music from a very early age, learning how to play the tabla and the keyboard. After dropping out of high school due to poor academic performance, Gopi Sundar decided to pursue a career in music and relocated to Chennai to attend the Government Music College. Through his father’s connections, he met Malayalam composer Ouseppachan, who took him under his wing and hired him as an assistant. Over the course of the next few years, Gopi Sundar made a name for himself as a jingle composer for TV commercials and as a keyboard programmer before jumping into the spotlight with the score for Rosshan Andrews’ 2006 teen film Notebook. The film’s success gave him some much-needed mainstream exposure as he continued to provide original material for movies such as Flash (2007) and Big B (2007), which kicked off his creative partnership with director Amal Neerad. In 2012, Gopi Sundar penned the score for Anwar Rasheed’s Ustad Hotel, another massive blockbuster that earned him several accolades at the Filmfare Award, Asianet Film Awards, SIIMA, and Kochi Times Awards. Subsequently, Gopi Sundar continued to collaborate closely with the Malayalam and Telugu film industries by providing original music to the feature films Charlie (2015), Take Off (2017), and Geetha Govindham (2018), racking up numerous awards in the process.
