In the space of a few studio albums, Malian Habib Koité has become one of his country's most highly-rated musicians, especially in the United States. A star in Mali since his anti-smoking single "Cigarette a bana" in 1991, Habib Koité took off internationally with Baro in 2001, featuring a new version of his hit. Habib Koité then toured intensively, bringing back Fôly! Live Around the World, released in 2004. Success continued with Afriki in 2007, with Habib Koité now performing with the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Eric Bibb. The two guitarists show their complicity in 2012 on Brothers in Bamako . Habib Koité returned to a more acoustic formula for Soô in 2014.
