Hadouken!

In a hail of glow sticks, whirring rave samples and an assault of blistering beats, Hadouken! were tipped for success in 2007 before they had even played a handful of gigs. Named after a special move on the video game 'Street Fighter', the buzz surrounding the Leeds University students quickly grew when they were name dropped by The Streets' Mike Skinner on BBC Radio 1 and future single 'That Boy That Girl' became a viral hit. Alongside Klaxons, Late of the Pier and New Young Pony Club, Hadouken! were billed as pioneers of the burgeoning new rave scene, mixing 1990s dance euphoria with a traditional band line-up. Popular mixtape 'Not Here to Please You' (2007) was followed by debut album 'Music for an Accelerated Culture' (2008) featuring the top 40 single 'Liquid Lives', and the band were soon blazing a fluorescent path across the festival circuit. Second album 'For the Masses' (2010) caught the brunt of a media backlash as the group embraced grime and hip-hop influences, but still managed to peak at number 19 in the UK Albums Chart. The band released third studio album 'Every Weekend', featuring the singles 'Oxygen', 'Parasite' and 'Levitate', in 2013 before announcing their indefinite hiatus the following year.
