Son of a Palestinian man and a Filipino woman, composer, guitarist and singer Hanni El Khatib is a rock'n'roll fanatic, the kind who goes back to his origins and crosses the decades via The Clash, The Cramps and Nick Cave. Signed to Stones Throw Records subsidiary Innovative Leisure, the groomed and tattooed young man released two garage blues singles followed by a deflagrating debut album, Will the Guns Come Out (2011). His cover of "I Got a Thing" (Funkadelic) is chosen by the Nike brand for an advert. The surprise success of the first album is consolidated by the April 2013 release of its little brother, Head in the Dirt, produced by Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys). Two years later, Moonlight is the fruit of personal work, from composition to production. Then, in 2015, taking advantage of a break in his schedule, Hanni El Khatib booked the Jazzcats studios in Long Beach and recorded with production artist Jonny Bell what would become Savage Times, whose name resonates with current events.
