Composer and producer of film music, Hans Zimmer (born in Frankfurt, Germany, on September 12, 1957) was revealed by the theme of Barry Levinson's film, Rain Man (1989). Since then, settled in California and naturalized American, this master of the genre has composed the music for the biggest Hollywood productions such as The Thin Red Line (1998) by Terrence Malick, Gladiator (2000) by Ridley Scott and Da Vinci Code (2006) by Ron Howard, not to mention the collaborations with James Newton Howard on the Batman series, whose last episode, The Dark Knight Rises, closed the trilogy in 2012. In 2013, he accompanied the destiny of another superhero, Superman, for the soundtrack of Man of Steel, then interested himself in the destiny of racing drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt in Rush. In 2014, after the success of 12 Years a Slave, he released the soundtracks for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Interstellar and the additional music for the film Divergent, in collaboration with Junkie XL. The following year was marked by the release of the animated film The Little Prince, for which he co-wrote the music with Richard Harvey. After Inferno and Hidden Figures, which he wrote in 2016 with Pharrell Williams, the composer worked on the music for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and then on the animated film The Boss Baby (2017). He was then entrusted with composing the soundtrack for Blade Runner 2049. In 2019, his name was associated with two blockbusters, the superhero film X-Men: Dark Phoenix and the filmed version of the animated film The Lion King. Winner of four Grammy Awards and Satellite Awards, three Golden Globes and an Academy Award among more than a hundred film scores, Hans Zimmer, as a mentor, launched the careers of John Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams and Heitor Pereira. In an ever-varied register, the following years saw the releases on disc and the big screen of Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), White Fang, The SpongeBob Movie, the collaboration with Denis Villeneuve on Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024), as well as an episode of the James Bond saga, No Time to Die (2021), with the theme composed and sung by Billie Eilish. Following in the footsteps of John Williams, he also gave symphonic concerts of his greatest themes, recorded in the series The World of Hans Zimmer: A Symphonic Celebration (2019) and Part II: New Dimension (2025).
