Hans-Jürgen Bäumler – born January 28, 1942, in Dachau, Bavaria, Germany – is a former pop / schlager singer, actor, and pairs’ figure skater. He first came to prominence in 1958 in pair skating with partner Maria Kilius, winning the German nationals four times. They went on to win the gold medal six times at the European Championships (1959-1964), two gold medals at the World Championships (1963-1964), and two silver medals at the Olympic Games (1960 and 1964). Once their figure skating career came to an end in 1964, they both became schlager singers and actors. Initially working as a duo, they appeared in the 1964 film Die große Kür and released several duets including the hits "Wenn die Cowboys träumen" and “Honeymoon in St. Tropez.” Hans-Jürgen Bäumler also released solo hits such as "Wunderschönes fremdes Mädchen" (1964), “Du bist mein Talisman” (1965), “Ich finde dich wunderbar” (1966), and “Marionetten” (1968). By the end of the 1960s, his career as a singer had been surpassed by work in television and motion pictures. Alongside acting in TV series, he also hosted several quiz shows. He eventually branched out and performed in several theater productions.
