Goo Ha-ra was a young South Korean singer and actress who rose to prominence as a member of the girl band Kara. Ha-ra's career began to take off and the following year she was offered her first TV role as a member of the cast of the reality show 'Invincible Youth'. Two years later she made her acting debut in the TV drama series 'City Hunter'. During this period she began to have disputes with Kara's management company DSP and in early 2016 the group disbanded due to a number of ongoing contractual issues within the group. During the next three years she pursued a successful solo career and began to make a name for herself as an actress. Unfortunately the success she experienced in her professional life was marred by a series of incidents in her private life, in particular the abusive relationship she had with her partner. Following legal action this became public and the subject of detailed media scrutiny. It is widely believed the adverse publicity surrounding the court case led to her suicide in November 2019.
