Recapturing the glamour and hedonism of New York's legendary late 1970s nightclub Studio 54, Hercules And Love Affair are an "art-disco" collective from the city's house and electro scene, who look like they've swaggered straight out of Andy Warhol's Factory. They are the brainchild of DJ and promoter Andy Butler, who started producing tracks for the uber-cool label DFA Records in 2004 and gradually evolved the group by working with androgynous vocalist Kim Ann Foxman and Antony Hegarty (of Antony And The Johnsons fame). Together their single Blind was named Best Song of 2008 by Pitchfork Media, and debut album Hercules And Love Affair (2008) won great critical acclaim for its lush, melancholic attempts to merge classic disco strut with electro-pop club anthems. Follow-up Blue Songs (2011) featured a guest appearance from Bloc Party's Kele Okereke and again crafted elegant, dance-floor pop filled with heartbreak, defiance and camp, theatrical glamour.
