HubbaBubbas is a Singaporean indie pop trio consisting of Ryan Chan (guitar), Stephanie Lim (vocals), and Mervin Ye (beatboxer). Their music, self-described as “post acoustic,” is a melting pot of influences, ranging from indie pop to R&B, jazz and hip-hop. The band started out as an acapella group in 2012, busking in the streets of Singapore and playing in small pubs and bars. In 2015, their single “Dancing on the World” was featured on the album Songs of the Games, a compilation for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games. The trio spent the next year fine-tuning their craft and playing live shows at the city’s top venues, culminating in the release of their debut EP, Amy(gdala) in August, 2016. The EP, which quickly sold out, was presented at the Aliwal Arts Center with guest appearances by bassist Tim De Cotta and keyboardist Audrey Tengkey. In 2018, they participated in the Sweet Dating project with Korean R&B duo G. Urban. Released in 2019 as a tribute to Lim’s grandfather, the summery single “Sunset in My Pocket” made it to Number 50 on the Singapore Top 40 and earned them five nominations for the Singapore Youth Music Awards 2020.
