Born November 15, 1984 in Incheon, South Korea, Huh Gak struggled through a childhood marked by family and financial difficulties. He worked as a maintenance man to supplement what income he could bring in singing until skyrocketing to fame in his home country after winning the reality television competition Superstar K2 in 2010. His debut single, “As Always” became his first Korean chart topper. A series of successful EPs produced more hit songs including the number 1 smash “Hello” and the top 5 hits “I Told You I Wanna Die” and “The Person Who Once Loved Me.” He won multiple Best New Artist awards in 2011 and 2012, and took home the Best Solo Artist trophy at the 2011 Bugs Music Awards. Gak’s debut album, Little Giant, came out in 2013 and included the number 2 hit “Monodrama,” the number 5 single “1440,” and the number 21 hit “I Want to Love.” In addition to further solo number 1 songs like “You Are Mine” and 2015’s “Snow of April”, Gak scored additional number 1 hits in collaboration with Jung Eun-ji (“Short Hair” and “Break Up to Make Up”) and Zia (“I Need You”).
