Italian singer, actress, and television personality Irene Fargo was born Flavia Pozzaglio on November 1, 1962, in Palazzolo sull'Oglio, Brescia. She started singing from a very young age and later joined the Polyphonic Choir of the city of Chiari at the age of 11. In 1987, she made her live debut at the Castrocaro Music Festival with the song "Fretta di Te." Preceded by the singles "Dialoghi/Meccanismi" and "Le Ragazze al Mare," her eponymous studio debut arrived in 1990 and also featured the operatic pop track "La Donna di Ibsen," which secured her the runner-up spot at the 1991 Sanremo Music Festival. Only a year later, Irene Fargo repeated the feat with "Come una Turandot," a tribute to Giacomo Puccini's opera of the same name. The song cracked the Top 5 of the Italian charts and was included in her critically acclaimed breakthrough album La Voce Magica della Luna, released in 1992. After her third LP Labirinti del Cuore (1993), Irene Fargo cut ties with former producer Enzo Miceli and revisited the Neapolitan songbook on the 1995 album 'O Core 'e Napule. She also became a regular presence on Italian TV, joining the cast of the variety show Domenica In and making frequent appearances on some of Paolo Limiti's programs. This was followed by a foray into theater that included starring roles in the musicals Il Ritratto di Dorian Gray, I Promessi Sposi, Masaniello, and Cleopatra in the 2000s and 2010s. During this time, she remained a popular figure in Italian pop music, releasing albums like Cartolina Napoletana (2009), Crescendo (2012), Luce (2014), and Il Cuore Fa (2016), her eleventh and last studio effort. Irene Fargo passed away on July 1, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.
